Email: Mrs. Lawson
I was born near Youngstown, Ohio. I have been singing in the church since the age of 6 and was called into music ministry at age 18. I received my B.A. in Church Music Leadership from Asbury University in Kentucky. I went on to lead worship in churches for 15 years as well as teach in private academies in Kentucky and Tennessee. I am currently working on my Masters degree in Religious Education through Liberty University and will be graduating next year. Presently, I am working to build the music department at VCS and also teach various High School classes, including Bible. My goal is to inspire children and teenagers to want to reach their full potential in Christ, and encourage them in their pursuit of the arts. I believe firmly in Christian education in the process of “making disciples” and pray I can be the positive Christian influence someone may need to help them grow in the Lord.

Fran Marx is happily married. She is a well-respected, state certified guidance counselor, educator, author, speaker, entrepreneur, and family oriented woman. Frances loves the Lord and strives to put Him first in every area of her life. She believes in the tremendous power of prayer. For her, life with the Lord has been a tremendous journey of restoration and healing. Having overcome difficulties and hardships herself, Mrs. Marx loves to encourage others and to be a success advocate to all those she meets.
She is passionate about offering people tools they can use to become the person God created them to be: Tools that will help them to achieve their dreams and goals. It has been exciting to watch the students at VCS as they get more excited and involved in planning and pursuing their goals and dreams for life after high school.
At VCS we administer self assessments to help students find their Spiritual Gifts as well as providing assessments that help students determine their interests, skills, values, career options and more. Sophomores take the PSAT, and for the first time, we were able to offer the pre-ACT on our campus to all students. Taking these tests and reviewing the results gives the students an opportunity to learn from their mistakes and improve their scores on these tests. There are several printed resources in the guidance office as well as a book lending library. Mrs. Marx has an open-door policy so that students can meet with her whenever it is convenient for them. Mrs. Marx also goes into classes and meets students at lunch on a regular basis to update them with new information or to encourage them. In addition, Mrs. Marx provides a monthly newsletter called, “Counselor’s Corner”, which is sent to all parents of high school students and is printed and given to all high school students. There are also extra copies of it in the guidance office. Through Counselor’s Corner, Mrs. Marx can share pertinent information with everyone in a timely fashion.
In addition to being the Director of Guidance for the high school at VCS, Mrs. Marx works part time for Sarasota County Schools at the Newtown branch of Suncoast Technical College as a guidance counselor/career coach for people working toward earning their GEDs.
Mrs. Marx is originally from Chicago, Ill. and has lived in Sarasota since 1985. She gave birth to three girls and has seven more children through re-marriage. Mrs. Marx has fifteen grandchildren and four great grandchildren. For fun, in addition to spending time with her husband, she plays Pickleball and rides her bike.
