Character building is an important part of preschool. We learn about being good friends to each other, obeying, learning to follow rules and respecting authority. Neatness is learned by picking up after ourselves and others. Bible lessons and daily chapel point us to the One who builds character.

We work on self-help by practicing how to tie shoes, use zippers, buttons, snaps, buckles and pouring our own juice. We also learn independence by encouraging our self-help skills.

Academic learning includes counting, recognizing numbers, reciting the ABC’s, recognizing letters and their phonetic sounds. We also learn to print our names. Some learn to read.

Fine motor skills are enhanced through painting in many different forms, coloring, cutting, and gluing. Gross motor skills are encouraged through outside play on our preschool playground.

Science is introduced through such things as observation of fish, caterpillars, tadpoles, magnets, magnifying glasses and growing plants on our playground, etc.

Songs, stories, poems and nursery rhymes are also a part of our activities. The children enjoy marching to music and playing instruments.

To enhance our curriculum, the 4 year old classes go on monthly field trips to learn about our world.

Assessments on students are done regularly.  We assess for academics, behavioral and social/emotional levels, fine and motor skills, and spiritual growth.  We assess the whole child as in Luke 2:52 "Jesus increased in wisdom (academics), and stature (physical), and in favor with God (spiritual) and man (social/emotional)".  We also request that all children be assessed by parents, twice a year, using the ASQ tool.

Meet Mrs. Kurecki

Mrs. Alyce Kurecki teaches our full-time 4 year olds. She has been a part of VCS from the beginning, teaching at VCS for more than 20 years. Previous teaching positions were at Suncoast Christian & Gulf Coast Christian Academy. Mrs. Kurecki earned her CDA from Manatee Community College and has completed classes to acquire a Preschool Director Certificate. She is also working on her A.S. degree in Early Childhood Education.

Meet Ms. Clarke

Ms. Clarke teaches our part-time 3 and 4 year old children. She has been a part of VCS since 1999, starting as a preschool aide. She earned her Associate's Degree in Early Childhood Education from State College of Florida.

Ms. Clarke has 3 children, all of whom attended VCS .
