Computer

VCS Computer LabComputer literacy is essential for all of our children as they prepare for higher learning and the workplace.

Despite what your child may tell you, playing computer games does not make them a computer expert!

In grades 2-4 we start our students on the path to computer mastery by focusing on the basics; introduction to the various parts of a computer and standard menu bar functions, proper filing, basic word processing and typing skills games.

In grades 5-7 we focus on more advanced techniques, from intermediate word processing, spreadsheet functions and presentation software, to video editing, web page design, online content management and 3d modeling and animation.

Our tests focus on fundamental computing concepts and terms, those that will likely survive the blistering pace of change in the computer industry.

Children know their computer grade is comprised of three elements:

  • Project results
  • Test results
  • Classroom participation

Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions at all about your child's computer education.

I'm looking forward to an exciting year!

Meet Mr. Johnson

Jack Johnson originates from Knoxville, located in the heart of the Volunteer State of Tennessee.  He holds various professional certifications from Comptia (A+, Network+, Security+) and is a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer.  His 13 years of experience in IT have traversed diverse environments, including the fields of medicine, architecture, hospitality, construction and education, in positions ranging from help desk support up to network operations management.

Whether at work or at home, Jack is supported amply and often humbled by three godly women: his wife, Kathleen, and two daughters, Hannah and Monica.  In his playtime Jack enjoys burning the midnight oil in academics, wasting brain cells in solving computer evils, exercising his musical prowess on a drum set, and being the provider and recipient of love, prayer and downright silliness with his family and friends.

Jack's ministry at VCS is to simply make his God-given gifts available in support as subordinate to what God is doing through the parents, the teachers and the staff for the students and for one another -- basically, wherever, whenever and however Christ directs in His training us for eternity.

Mr. Johnson teaches the Middle School computer classes.
