Third Things First
Third grade is a transition grade. Students begin the lifelong process of reading to learn, as opposed to learning to read.
Mrs. MacNevin has a proven track record that states: "Learning can be fun in a structured, loving, disciplined environment." Subjects taught include: mathematics, language, spelling, Bible, American history, health, science, reading, cursive writing and geography.
Special projects include: a Native American project, book reports, animal notebook, president report, pen pal letters, holiday drafts and a classroom postal system.
What's Up?
In addition to the daily academics, third graders have three major field trips. Students have an opportunity for a hands-on experience in archaeology at Historic Spanish Point. Also, third graders attend the Venice Symphony children's concert and a play.
VCS also provides classes in computer, art, music, Spanish and physical education. Attendance at chapel once a week helps to round out the spiritual training offered at VCS.
