Expectations
In 5th grade we emphasize strengthening our Christian Character, developing our talents and using our Creative skills to be "salt and light" in God's world. Our studies include English grammar, diagramming, and research skills. Math concepts include multiplication with four-digit multipliers, division with three-digit divisors, English and metric systems, converting measures, and solving measurement equations. Fractions make up the largest portion of our math curriculum.
Spelling, science, literature, old world history, geography, and beginning Greek and Latin round out our very busy days. Bible is a key subject. The students memorize important Bible passages and study Bible themes with a special emphasis on Moses and David.
Our class specials add much variety to our week. They include art, music, physical education, Spanish, chapel, library, and computer.
Enrichment Programs
Fifth grade has a wide assortment of enrichment activities that enhance the curriculum. Annual trips include: Ringling Museum of Art, ECHO Farms, and local theatre presentations, Special projects include producing a poetry workshop, participation in the ACSI spelling bee, inventor's fair, visit to a local nursing home and in-depth study of Florida's sea turtles.
